Yellowstone Part 1

Ok I realised that if I wait until I go thru all my Yellowstone photos it will probably be Christmas by the time I get a blog post up.  So in a moment of brilliance I decided to break it up.  Probably makes it easier for you as well.

So Yellowstone, my home away from home, a place that manages to render me completely speechless.  Which is why, when my friend asked me to come along as a tour guide I was excited.  The summer I work in Yellowstone might of been one of the best summers of my life.  My job was to show people this amazing place, I got to live in a cabin by the firehole river and I could spend my spare time at this amazing outdoor play ground.  In short it was awesome.  Although playing tour guide I was sort of at the mercy of my groups schedule, so I never had the opportunity to get up real early for the nice morning light, I didn’t manage to get some real good pictures.  Which is something that I didn’t do when I worked there.

Anyways….Let the Tour Begin.

So there are many ways to Yellowstone.  You could parachute in, but that is usually reserved for smokejumpers, and they usually don’t have cameras or access to flushing toilets.  I like flushing toilets.  You could fly in, with many airport as options, as we did.  We ended up flying into Salt Lake City.  I like Salt Lake City I have been there many times, but to be honest I haven’t been since the Olympics.  So as you can imagine, there were less people there this time.  First thing I hit was the Farmers Market at Pioneer Park, while my friend headed off to the airport to pick up his parents.  While at the market I came across this character.

He was just rocking out with his cello and crazy hair.  I was fascinated, maybe it was like the lack of caffeine in my system, but I figured he needed his photo taken.  Once my friend returned from the airport we figured maybe a short activity was in order.  I figured the tram at Snowbird would be a good option, it gets us out of the valley, low impact but high potential for great views.  The tram ended up being a very good idea in terms of wildlife.  The Mountain Blue Bird was eating his lunch at the top of the Tram.  The moose was in the parking lot of all places, my friend walked right by them.  I don’t know how you miss a friggen moose.  His response “I see more moose with you….”  He is right, I remember some wet moose running cross the street when we were speeding thru Route 3 in NH once too.

So the next day we are heading north, to the park we shall go!  Along the way we planned to make a stop at Golden Spike National Historic Site.  It is where the two transcontential  and it is in the middle of no-where.  Here are pictures of replica steam engine (engine no 119) and a photo of a near by rocket display, which was random, weird and cool all at the same time.

After we left the middle of no where Utah we were on our way!!! Head north young travelers!  We got to West Yellowstone at about 6PM so I convinced the group to head up to Old Faithful for the evening.  Well in my usually awesome timing, we got there the geyser had just gone off.  So we had some time to kill.  So the group too some time to wander around the Old Faithful Inn, I love the Inn it is such a great building.  And then finally the geyser went off, well after its predicted time, which meant it was dark.  Hence the B&W photo.  I used to tell people that geysers are never late, they erupt exactly on time, the time at which they are ready to erupt, but not necessarily on your time.  That being said Old Faithful could of done me a favor and erupted when there was still light.  Oh well.

Anyways there is day one and two….more to come.
